Begin with a Firm Foundation

Matthew 7: 24 – 27

24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”

My son wanted me to make a He Man Castle Gray Skull castle.  I found a triple decker castle cake recipe, and I knew that I could adapt the recipe.  So, I baked four very moist square cakes.  The first layer was iced and looked great.  The second layer was a little shaky (did I mention that it was a moist cake?).  The impending disaster happened when the third layer was added.  The very most cake layers disintegrated.  I tried to rescue it, but the layers continued to crumble beneath the top layers.  I took out the pieces of foundation that were firm and reassembled.  The cake was delicious, but it is really hard to build on a shaky foundation.

The word of Jesus is our solid foundation.  When our foundation is weak, everything crumbles.

Father God, please help us anchor our lives on your word — our rock.  I love you Jesus, Amen.
