God’s First String

Philippians 1:6

being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

A local television news station reported about major league baseball drafts this morning.  Local minor league players may have the option to move up to the majors.  The reporter listed a  variety of characteristics that made each person qualify to move to the majors.  This made me wonder about who God would choose to play on his team.

The Bible recounts the stories of many such men and women that God used mightily for His plans.  God equipped each person individually to do His will.  From the variety of men and women listed in the following partial list, I pray that you find renewed hope that God has a plan to use you as well.  I don’t know where you’ve been, but God does.  He can use your life just as he used these men and women to glorify His name.

A tattle-tail given preferential treatment (Joseph)

A conspirator to murder (David)

A person who killed in anger (Moses)

A harlot (Rahab)

A killer of Christians (Saul later renamed Paul)

A beautiful young girl (Esther)

A trickster  (Jacob)

A female army commander (Deborah)

A man who lost everything (Job)

Fishermen (Andrew, James, John, and Peter)

A Doctor (Luke)

A Young man (Timothy)

Tent makers (Acquilla and Priscilla)

Dear God, we know that you are faithful to do a good work in us regardless of where we have been.  Use us, Lord, as you used the men and women int he Bible.  Help us be open to obeying your word.  Amen.
