Open and Closed Doors

Proverbs 3: 5-6

Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.

Revelation 3:7

“To the angel of the church in Philadelphia write:

These are the words of him who is holy and true,who holds the key of David. What he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open.

Have you ever seen a mirrored maze?  Your reflection is everywhere.  As a matter of fact, there’s so much of you that it’s hard to decide where the next opening is.  If you aren’t careful, then you will not find the opening and run right into yourself.

A friend of mine reminded me today of a simple prayer that we have prayed a million times — a prayer for open and closed doors.  Sometimes, when we look to see which direction to go, we see only ourselves.  We are not, however, the one who can open and close the doors.  Only God can provide a straight path, and this occurs when we see past ourselves and put our trust in Him.

Dear God, please open the doors through which we are to walk.  Please close the others tightly.  Help us put ourselves aside and trust you.  Please make our paths straight.  Amen.
