Well, as of late, I have been a beagle…
A few weeks ago, we visited a church on vacation that was co-pastored by college friends. It was our first visit at the church, and we were warmly greeted. The Holy Spirit was warm, and the congregation was friendly. Just before church started, a woman came and joined our family. She asked if this was our first visit, and we made small talk. Out of the blue, she turned to me and said, “Do you write?” I was somewhat taken back and said, “What?” She said, “Do you write poems? stories?” I answered with, “Yes.How did you know?” She said, “The Holy Spirit told me to ask you that. God wants you to write again. He cannot reveal what he wants to reveal to you without you writing.”
I was somewhat taken back because it had only been 4 months before when I committed to picking up my journal again and writing. I did – for a few days. Those entries can be shared with you later. But, there were so many distractions! I fell and twisted my ankle, the children had school projects, etc. Soon, I had forgotten all about my journal – until I met Elvina. I’ve asked myself a thousand times how she would have know that I was a writer if it were not the Holy Spirit. I have nothing, folks. Absolutely nothing.
My son asked if I had my journal on vacation. I did not. But I have heard her words over and over. Today, I am writing. Oh, that I might continue to have my full focus on God and not be like Mia.
Luke 10:27 reminds us that we are to do things with all of our heart, soul, strength, and mind. It’s a matter of full focus, and I pray that my focus improves beyond that of Mia, the distracted Beagle.
He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.'”
